Describing the project as “indie chic,” Speedlan says, “I wrote this EP as a love letter to 2000s indie rock. The cover art of me in armor emphasizes the medieval theme, It was there to introduce an image.'' A young black woman was empowered by her own heroic journey. The Strokes' producer Gordon Raphael found me on TikTok and offered to join the project as lead mixer, and I was able to really create a nostalgic garage rock sound while keeping it modern for all kinds of listeners. Regarding the EP's title, Speedlan says: “Latest News of Love'' is a translation of the title of a French poem by Jean-Michel Morpoix from the book “A Matter of Blue.'' I am an avid reader, so my favorite collection is I liked the idea of naming it after a poem. Additionally, the idea of love as something dynamic that is constantly updated, like the news, was a cool concept that I wanted to integrate.”
