Pakistani security forces have killed at least four terrorists during intelligence operations in the insurgent province of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, the military said on Tuesday.
The operation was carried out in Dera Ismail Khan district on Monday following reports of the presence of terrorists in the area, the military's media wing, Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), said.
A fierce gunfight broke out between militants and security personnel, during which four terrorists were killed, Geo News reported.
“The slain terrorists remained actively involved in numerous terrorist activities against security forces and killed innocent civilians,” ISPR said.
It added that weapons, ammunition and explosives were also recovered from those killed.
ISPR said a disinfection operation was launched to eliminate other terrorists found in the area.
The operation came as security forces thwarted an attack by Baloch militants attempting to infiltrate one of Balochistan's major naval air bases.
At least four terrorists were killed in an attack on PNS Siddique Naval Air Station in Turbat, a restive area of the sparsely populated province, on Monday night.
Soldiers from the Frontier Corps Balochistan were also killed in the attack.
The banned Balochistan Liberation Army claimed that the country's Majeed Brigades were behind the attack.
