According to the same reporter, Chelsea are expected to receive a transfer ban due to former owner Roman Abramovich's self-reporting of “possible financial irregularities'' during his tenure.
Todd Boley's consortium completed its takeover of Chelsea in May 2022, paying a staggering £4.25bn for the west London club. Accountants under new ownership soon discovered problems with the previous era's finances, with secret transactions taking place between offshore accounts.
In the interest of full transparency, Chelsea immediately reported these findings to the Premier League.
Chelsea's finances and payment history are currently under investigation and, if found guilty, the Blues could face a significant transfer ban.
Appearing on the Inside Track podcast, journalist Pete O'Rourke revealed that Boley has given up hope and is preparing for a transfer ban from Chelsea.
“Chelsea put their hand up and claimed that there were some violations under the previous manager, Roman Abramovich,” he said.

“I think Todd Boley was anticipating what was going to happen to Chelsea with the recent transfer fees.
“It's a bit of a circus at Stamford Bridge, but I think he's definitely expecting a transfer ban.”
Three penalties for Chelsea
A transfer ban isn't the only sanction Chelsea could face, with the Premier League also potentially considering hefty fines and point deductions.
Of course, news of a possible transfer ban comes amid uncertainty over Chelsea's compliance with profit and sustainability regulations.
Chelsea have spent more than £1bn on player acquisitions since Boley joined the club, signing star players such as Moises Caicedo, Enzo Fernandes, Wesley Fofana and Myhailo Mudryk on big-money deals.
Chelsea officials are adamant that they would not be surprised if some players were sold in the summer, but that everything will be done as per the regulations and no rules will be broken.
Conor Gallagher and Trevor Chalobah could come into the transfer market as they are academy graduates, meaning selling them would be a pure gain on Chelsea's books.
