MONTREAL — Grocery store Metro and the Too Good To Go app have announced a new partnership aimed at giving Quebecers a way to save money on their grocery bills while reducing food waste.
According to Recyc-Québec, 1.2 million tonnes of edible food is lost or wasted every year in Quebec. 45% of these foods are fruits or vegetables. Metro and Too Good To Go are working to introduce solutions to combat this phenomenon and empower consumers to take action.
Quebec residents can now reserve a surprise assortment of the day's unsold fruits and vegetables through the Too Good To Go application. These are still perfectly safe to eat. Each assortment sells for just $7.99, which is a $24 value.
“With this partnership, we offer our customers a new way to save by offering an assortment of fruits and vegetables at one-third the retail price,” said Richard Pruneau, Metro Senior Vice President. I am. “Too Good To Go builds on other efforts already in place at Metro to reduce food waste associated with our operations.”
Since 2022, nearly 100 metro stores in Ontario have had access to the app, saving thousands of kilograms of food from waste. Building on this success, the partnership has been expanded to his 93 stores in 13 regions of Quebec, following a pilot project implemented in 10 stores in Quebec last November. The program will be rolled out to more Metro stores in the coming months.
said Andrea Li, National Director of Too Good To Go Canada. “Our partnership with Metro is a major turning point. It allows us to strengthen our efforts to reduce food waste. Together, we can create real change.”
