The event is a partnership between Leadership VI, Nanaimo Foodshare and the City of Nanaimo, and doors will be open from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
The event will include a showcase of all of Nanaimo Foodshare's programs, as well as a variety of booths and gardening stations demonstrating techniques for growing food locally.
“People can literally get their hands dirty,” Kemp says. “There will be tours of the farm and an opportunity to plant and dig in the soil and see what goes in the soil and what makes the soil grow well in the local environment.”
She added that public education is a big pillar of the event, which aims to make people more comfortable growing their own food, whether they have a small patio garden or a large outdoor space. Ta.
“Foodshare intends to explore and share what’s good to grow locally. We know we don’t have the best environment to grow all kinds of fruits and vegetables… But what can thrive and grow in our environment?”
This is the first time this event has been organized, and participants can also enter to win a number of prizes, including packets of seeds and Douglas fir seedlings.
