This Tuesday, St. Olaf Church in Swift Current will be serving an amazing amount of salads.
The Spring Salad Smoog is a chance to support the church by purchasing a meal voucher, which allows you to sample a wide variety of salads, from leafy greens and noodles to sauces and surprisingly meaty salads.
Eunice Mork, a member of St. Olaf Church, is pleased to see so many main dishes being prepared for this year's salad celebration.
“We normally have a fall dinner in the fall, but we thought we'd have something to eat now in the spring,” Mork said. “The idea came from Lloydminster and we're trying it for the first time.”
Other salad options include deviled eggs, taco salad, egg salad, bean salad and bread salad.
Proceeds from this event help fund the yearly operations of St. Olaf Church and the programs it provides for parishioners and the community.
Patty Tatzke, another church member, couldn't emphasize enough how many salads were served.
“We have a lot of salads: Japanese salad, Finnish salad, pasta salad, green salad, Greek salad,” Tazke said.
As well as salads there will also be a quilt sale, with local people hard at work sewing together warm night covers, and now the quilts will be on sale at St Olaf's Church in time for the Spring Salad Smoog.
Valerie Berteau, another member of St. Olaf Church, encouraged people to come and see the fine details of the quilt.
“I also have some wreaths and things like that that I've made out of leftover quilt material,” Berteau said, “and I'll be selling those as well.”
Tickets are $20 each. Doors open at 11 a.m. and the Spring Salad Smoothie will run until 2 p.m.
