1) DuckDuckGo makes using AI chatbots safer:
Privacy-focused search engine DuckDuckGo now allows users to anonymously and for free access to popular AI chatbots such as OpenAI's ChatGPT (based on GPT-3.5), Anthropic's Claude 3 Haiku, Mixtra 8x7B, and Meta Llama 3. The new feature aims to harness the power of generative AI while also addressing privacy concerns users may have when using these chatbots.
The new feature, called “AI Chat,” is free to use with a daily usage limit that can be turned off if desired, and DuckDuckGo said it plans to introduce paid tiers with higher daily usage limits and more AI models.
2) Meta AI Enters the WhatsApp Business:
Social media giant Meta announced this week that it is rolling out Meta AI for WhatsApp business accounts in India, a new feature aimed at helping businesses utilise their resources more efficiently.
“AI tools will help businesses on WhatsApp better support their customers and help them discover new products that might interest them. We're training AI to respond to the most common questions businesses receive on WhatsApp, helping customers quickly find the answers they're looking for,” Meta wrote in a blog post about the new features.
Additionally, Meta will also be introducing the Meta Verified feature to the WhatsApp Business app in Brazil, India, Indonesia, and Colombia.
3) Google Maps will no longer store your real-time location.
Google has announced a major change to how it handles users' location data, storing sensitive information directly on users' devices instead of sending it to its servers. The new changes mean that users will be able to get a comprehensive record of their whereabouts in Google Maps, including places they've visited and restaurants they frequent.
The move towards storing data locally on devices has been touted as a proactive measure to give users more control over their personal information.
4) Instagram begins testing “Trial Reels” feature:
Instagram is reportedly testing a new Reels feature that will allow creators to test out Reels without having them appear on their profiles. According to a new report from TechCrunch, Instagram has begun global testing of a new “Trial Reels” feature, but the feature is not yet integrated into the stable version of the app.
The new Trial Reels feature is reportedly designed to allow users to test out their content without feeling pressured to perform. According to a TechCrunch report, the Trial Reels feature was originally part of Instagram's “experimental mode” and was first discovered by reverse engineer Alessandro Pruzzi back in April of this year.
5) HTC may make a comeback with the U12 series:
HTC has confirmed that it will be launching a new smartphone in Taiwan on June 12. While the company has not officially revealed the design, specs or name of the device, rumors suggest that the smartphone could be part of the much talked about HTC U24 series.
The two smartphones — HTC U24 and HTC U24 Pro — will be launched in Taiwan first, and it is unclear when the devices will be available in India and other global markets.
