Junaid Khan, son of Bollywood actor Aamir Khan, is set to make his big screen debut in the Netflix film Maharaj on June 14. The first look images of Junaid and co-star Jaideep Ahlawat were released by the makers last month but unfortunately, the film has already stirred controversy ahead of its much-awaited release.
Some on social media have called for the film to be banned for its negative portrayal of sadhus and religious leaders. Hindu activists have expressed their displeasure with the film's portrayal of religious figures, and the hashtag #BoycottNetflix has started trending on X.

One person wrote, “Netflix is back with anti-Hindu propaganda content again. Aamir Khan is debuting his son in a Hindu-phobic film 'Maharaj' and secretly releasing it without any trailer or teaser. The film 'Maharaj' defames Hindu saints and sages by portraying them as immoral, lecherous and hooligan. Ban the film 'Maharaj'.”
Another user added, “If this film portrays sadhus and saints as evil and lecherous people, hurts the religious sentiments of Hindus and disturbs law and order then Junaid Khan, Yash Raj Films and #Netflix will all be held responsible. #BoycottNetflix Ban Maharaj Movie.”

What is Maharajji?
The inspiration for Maharaj is based on the actual account of a historic Indian trial known as the Maharaj Defamation Case of 1862. Jaideep plays the role of Vallabhacharya leader Jadunathji Brijratanji Maharaj while Junaid plays journalist and social reformer Karsandas Mulji.
