In the video, Meghan claimed the palace didn't help her with the negative press coverage. “I did whatever they told me to do, because of course it was through the lens of, 'And we'll protect you,'” she said.

“So even when things that I hadn't seen started to be reported in the media, my friends would call me and say, 'Meg, this is really awful,' and because I hadn't seen it, I was like, 'Don't worry, I'm protected,'” she added.
Oprah then asked, “Were you silenced or were you silenced?” to which Meghan replied, “The latter.”
“So how does that work? Were you told by your publicist or by — I'm not sure — the institution to keep quiet? To not say anything?” Oprah asked.

“From the moment the public found out that Harry and I were dating, there were very clear instructions to everyone around me to say 'no comment' at all times,” Meghan said.

Meghan also spoke about being denied mental health support during her time in the royal family. “Everything was happening just because I was breathing. I went to an institution and they said I had to go get help somewhere,” she said. “I said, 'I've never felt like this, I need to go somewhere' and they said I couldn't, that it wasn't good for the institution.”
“I spoke to one of the most senior people just to ask for help,” she said, and the response was, “We understand how terrible the situation is and our hearts go out to you, but you're not a paid employee of this facility and there's nothing we can do to protect you.”

“This wasn't a choice. This was an email pleading for help and it said very specifically 'I am concerned about my mental wellbeing',” Meghan added.
