There's still time to register to play a fun round of golf while supporting Veterans Food Bank Alberta and Veteran Hunters.
The “Nurture Your Body, Heal Your Mind” Best Ball Tournament will be held on July 17th at the beautiful Water Valley Golf Club.
Todd Hisey, founder and executive director of Veterans Hunters, said the two nonprofits work together to ensure the most fun possible on the golf course.
“Many of the programs that Alberta Veterans Food Bank does are about nourishing the body, and Veteran Hunters focuses on healing the mind. The two go hand in hand.”
The goal is to raise $40,000 and collect a truckload of non-perishable food.
Even if you can't play golf, he says there are other ways you can contribute.
“You'll have the chance to enter a 50/50 raffle that we have going on, and we also have a trig donated by Costco, as well as a football beer cooler full of beer from Calgary breweries, where you can buy raffle tickets.”
Plus, you could win a Traeger smoker or Foosball patio cooler in a separate drawing – enter here .
We are currently accepting bids for safaris, fly fishing experiences and great merchandise in our silent auction. Here is the link.
Tournament sponsorship packages are also available. Please see here for details.
He said the need for food banks has never been greater, especially for veterans.
“About two-thirds of Canadian veterans live below the poverty line, so we're also hoping to raise a pickup truck load of food. If you're coming to the tournament, we'd appreciate it if you could bring some food or non-perishable items and put them in boxes in the truck.”
This isn't the first time they've partnered with the VA. With help from the Alberta government and landowners, they were able to thin the moose herd in the Cochrane area last year and donate the meat to the VA. In Alberta, game animals can be donated after being government-inspected.
“Hopefully we can do that again this year. It's a great opportunity for us to give back to the community and look after each other.”
