Today’s latest news: India is likely to receive normal to above-normal rainfall in July, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) said in its monthly rainfall and temperature forecast released on Monday. “Weather models and historical data indicate that India will receive normal to above-normal rainfall during the month,” said India Meteorological Department Director General Murthyunjay Mohapatra. The IMD also noted the extreme heat across the country over the past two months. This summer saw 536 days of extreme heat, the most in 14 years, and last month the northwest recorded its hottest June since 1901, according to the IMD. India recorded 181 days of extreme heat in June, the second-highest number after 177 days in 2010, Mohapatra said in an online press conference.
