Only eight nations remain in Euro 2024 and somehow England is still one of them.
Gareth Southgate’s Switzerland side struggled in the group stage, but in their round of 16 match against Slovakia they went into extra time with an equaliser from Harry Kane, who secured their victory. Now they face Switzerland in a match that will see them advance to the finals.
Jude Bellingham scored a brilliant goal in the 96th minute to keep England in the match and in the tournament, but his celebrations afterwards upset some people. “It was just an inside joke with close friends who were at the match. I have nothing but respect for the way the Slovak team played tonight,” he said, but UEFA have nevertheless opened an investigation into possible indecent conduct and Bellingham could face a suspension.
But Southgate still has a number of issues to sort out, including the doubtful availability of Kieran Trippier, defensive problems with the suspension of Marc Guehi and poor performances from the rest of his squad.
Check out all the latest news and reaction below ahead of England’s last-eight clash.
