Today’s Latest News Live: Congress leader Rahul Gandhi, who is on a day-long visit to Gujarat, met party workers in Ahmedabad today. The party’s visit comes days after clashes broke out between Congress and BJP workers in front of the Gujarat Congress headquarters in Ahmedabad on Tuesday. The clashes were triggered by “anti-Hindu” comments made by the Congress leader in a parliamentary speech. Following the clashes, police arrested five Congress workers on Tuesday. “They have challenged us. We will defeat Modi and the BJP in Gujarat as we did in Ayodhya,” Rahul said at a meeting of Congress workers today. The statement underlines the Congress’s resolve to challenge the ruling BJP in the upcoming elections. The party has won a Lok Sabha seat in the state for the first time in a decade.
What else is planned for Rahul Gandhi’s day in Gujarat? Following the party meeting, the Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha is also scheduled to meet the families of those who lost their lives in various recent tragedies in Gujarat, including the Rajkot game reserve fire, the Vadodara boat capsizing and the Morbi bridge collapse.
For the first time since Hyderabad ceased to be the common capital of both states, Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu and Telangana Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy will meet in Hyderabad today. The meeting is likely to focus on resolving pending issues related to the bifurcation of Andhra Pradesh. Several issues, including division of assets, state institutions, unpaid electricity dues and transfer of remaining employees to their home states, remain unresolved even a decade after the bifurcation.
