Donald Trump said he has not yet finalized who his running mate will be but plans to make an announcement next week.

“There’s a chance we’ll do it during the convention. I’d like to do it during the convention,” Trump said in an interview with Fox News’ Sean Hannity on Monday night, referring to the Republican National Convention, which begins in Milwaukee on July 15.
“This is a very interesting preparation and I think it will be important for the tournament. It will add more excitement to the tournament,” he added.
Trump said his running mate was “someone who would do a great job as president” and “someone who would help me get elected” and that “there’s nothing wrong with that.”
Responding to a question from Hannity, who named Sens. J.D. Vance, Marco Rubio, Tim Scott and North Dakota Gov. Doug Burgum, he added that they were among those under consideration.
The former president has repeatedly delayed the vice presidential selection process, sparking intrigue and speculation surrounding his decision. Last month, he told reporters he had made up his mind about who he wanted to be his running mate but hadn’t yet told that person.
Next week, delegates to the convention will formally nominate Trump and his yet-to-be-named running mate as the party’s presidential nominee, but Trump must make a decision first.
Mike Pence, who served as vice president during Trump’s first term, refused to endorse his former boss. Pence harshly criticized Trump for his role in the riots at the U.S. Capitol on January 6, 2021, in which rioters called for Pence to be hanged.
