An Indian woman says she enjoyed the “best first date” at India’s victory parade at the T20 World Cup.
Yashi Varma met up with his Tinder match in Mumbai on July 4, 2024 and shared some pictures documenting the memorable date. Thousands of fans gathered at Marine Drive as the national team celebrated in style.
Team India’s open bus parade through iconic spots in Mumbai was the highlight of the evening as people waited with bated breath to catch a glimpse of the Men in Blue, while Yashi was lucky enough to witness the moment as Virat Kohli blew kisses to the crowd.
The first date was in the aftermath of India’s heartbreaking defeat to Australia in the ODI World Cup final. India went on to beat South Africa by seven runs in the T20 World Cup final. Meanwhile, Yashi’s tweet went viral, with many netizens sharing their thoughts about their date with her.
One person wrote, “Good luck to you guys.” Many people said Yasi should marry the person she is dating, with one writing, “Marry him now.”
Another said: “If he’s a fan of Kohli then he’s the perfect man to marry,” while a third agreed: “Marry that man.”
“Stay with him forever,” one user advised the Indian woman, whose return home had been delayed by Hurricane Beryl.
Fans had been eagerly awaiting India’s return, with some waiting since early in the morning. “We’ve been waiting for this moment for 13 years,” said one fan, who claimed to have been waiting since 4.30 am.
“The team won the World Cup and made us proud,” said another group waiting outside the airport. “We have been here since last night.
“After losing the ODI World Cup last year, it was very important for us to win this World Cup.” The Indian team’s victory parade was followed by dance and musical celebrations at the iconic Wankhede Stadium, where India had won the ODI World Cup title in 2011 under the captaincy of MS Dhoni.
Before the victory parade, the cricket team had breakfast with Prime Minister Narendra Modi at his residence after arriving in New Delhi.
