According to ICRA, domestic air passenger traffic in June 2024 grew 6.3% year-on-year, marking a significant increase of 10.4% from pre-pandemic levels. The agency also said domestic airlines reported a 7% year-on-year increase, but a 3% decline compared to May of the previous year. The upward trend in air passenger traffic is expected to continue, even as domestic airlines forecast a net loss of Rs 3,000-4,000 crore for the financial year ending March 2025, in line with the previous year’s trend. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a weather advisory predicting widespread rains over the country over the next few days. Heavy to very heavy rains are expected in the Northeast and adjoining eastern regions, with sporadic very heavy rains expected over the next 2-3 days, after which the rains will gradually taper off. Further, the IMD has predicted heavy to very heavy rains over the next 5 days over areas including Konkan, Goa, Madhya Maharashtra and coastal Karnataka. Central India, Bihar and Uttar Pradesh are also expected to receive significant rains during this period, according to the latest IMD statement.

Konkan Railway train services were disrupted again on Wednesday morning after water inundated a tunnel in Goa’s Pernem, forcing several trains to be cancelled or diverted, officials said. Konkan Railway Corporation Limited (KRCL) Deputy General Manager Baban Ghatge reported that train services began to be affected after water began entering a tunnel on the Madure-Pernem section at 2:35 pm on Tuesday.
