SPAIN – Spanish tourist Carlos Luna, 43, was killed by a herd of elephants after getting out of his car to take photos in Pilanesberg National Park. Luna, from Zaragoza, was with his fiancée and two other women and ignored warnings from friends and bystanders. They walked very close to three elephants with their calf. One of the elephants attacked Luna and he was trampled to death by the herd. His body will be sent to Spain.
UK – Kyle Clifford (26), wanted for the murders of BBC horse racing commentator John Hunt’s wife Carol Hunt and her daughters Hannah and Louise, has been arrested by British police. The three women were found seriously injured in Bushey, Hertfordshire, and later died. Police believe a crossbow and possibly other weapons were used in the murders. Clifford, who retired from the British Army in 2022 and knew the victims, is currently undergoing treatment for his injuries.
United States – President Joe Biden faces a tough race in New York, a state that typically favors Democrats. Polls show Biden’s support in the state, which he won by 23 points in 2020, is slipping. Two private polls in the battleground state show former President Donald Trump leading Biden by one point, while public polls have narrowed Biden’s statewide lead to just eight points. Democratic leaders have called on Biden to devote resources to campaigning in the state and supporting Democrats in the key battleground state.
INDIA – Santosh Lohar, 35, from Bihar, India, was bitten to death by a snake while he was sleeping. When he woke up, Lohar grabbed the snake and bit it three times to kill it. His reaction was based on a village legend in Jharkhand, which says that a snake’s venom is neutralised if it bites twice.
