Today’s live news updates: Defence Minister Rajnath Singh has been admitted to the IIT Medical School in New Delhi. Officials said his condition is currently stable. An IIT Medical School official told The Indian Express that Rajnath Singh had been admitted to the neurosurgery department after complaining of severe back pain.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi is meeting prominent economists in New Delhi ahead of the Central government’s presentation of the Union Budget on July 23. Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman is also in attendance at the meeting. Sitharaman will present the first budget of the Modi government’s third term, which ends on August 12.

Meanwhile, External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar welcomed foreign ministers of the seven member countries of the Bay of Bengal Initiative for Multisectoral Technical and Economic Cooperation (BIMSTEC) in Delhi for a two-day meeting. BIMSTEC includes Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, Myanmar, Thailand, Nepal and Bhutan. They will discuss ways to deepen cooperation across a range of areas including security, connectivity and trade.
