Today’s latest news: Heavy to very heavy rainfall is expected in several parts of the country today as India’s monsoon is on a downward trend. In southern states, a red alert for heavy rain has been issued for three districts of Kerala and parts of Karnataka, and authorities have closed schools in Uttar Kannada district. Heavy rain is expected over the next five days in Goa, Karnataka, Maharashtra, Gujarat, Odisha, Jharkhand and all major northeastern states.
On the political front, the monsoon session of the Karnataka Assembly begins today. The opposition Bharatiya Janata Party is likely to question the Siddaramaiah government over the alleged MUDA scam and the Cauvery river water dispute. Chief Minister Siddaramaiah on Sunday directed his team to come forward for the nine-day session. Also, a Supreme Court bench will today hear former Delhi Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia’s plea seeking restoration of his bail plea in connection with the alleged excise policy scam.
