As a result, authorities have declared closure for educational institutions in seven districts — Thrissur, Malappuram, Kozhikode, Kannur, Kasaragod, Ernakulam and Wayanad. Heavy rains in Kottayam district yesterday caused trees to fall and damaged houses and vehicles. Heavy rains are expected in Karnataka today and the India Meteorological Department has issued a red alert for coastal Karnataka, Dakshina Kannada, Udupi and Uttara Kannada.

The deadly exchange of fire began when terrorists hiding in the forest suddenly opened fire on a team of security forces conducting a search operation in the area.

Indian National Congress leader Surendra Singh Rajput on Tuesday slammed the Bharatiya Janata Party for the recent terror attacks in Jammu and Kashmir, saying, “Our soldiers are being killed continuously. Is the Bharatiya Janata Party government here just to make a statement? Terrorists are attacking our soldiers and they (Bharatiya Janata Party) are busy attending weddings.”

Four soldiers, including an Army officer, killed in gunfight in Doda, Jammu and Kashmir
Four Army soldiers, including a major, were killed and injured in a gunfight that took place in Desa forest in Jammu and Kashmir’s Doda district on Monday night.
Sources said at least five soldiers sustained bullet injuries when they chased the terrorists into the forest and fled after the brief encounter.
They were evacuated to a hospital, but four of them later died of their injuries. (Read more)
