US President Joe Biden tested positive for COVID-19 while in Las Vegas on Wednesday. The White House reported that Biden is experiencing mild symptoms, including general fatigue. According to an Associated Press report, spokeswoman Karine Jean-Pierre said Biden will self-isolate at his home in Delaware and continue to carry out his duties as president during this time.
UnidosUS President and CEO Jeanette Murguía first announced the news at the organization’s convention in Las Vegas, where Biden canceled his attendance after testing positive.
Biden’s doctor said the president was experiencing symptoms including a cough, runny nose and general fatigue, and he has started taking the antiviral drug Paxlovir.
Biden’s plan changes
Instead of attending the UnidosUS event, Biden flew to Delaware, where he is currently in quarantine. Notably, Biden contracted the virus even after being vaccinated and receiving the recommended booster shot.
The diagnosis comes amid concerns about Biden’s health and debate about whether he is fit to serve another term as president.
When it comes to COVID-19, health officials are seeing an increase in hospitalizations and positive cases across the U.S., particularly in the Southwest.
Meanwhile, President Biden remains under observation and plans to continue carrying out his presidential duties while isolating at his home in Delaware.
