Los Angeles, CA – Following the second game of the NCAA Tournament, No. 17 Virginia Tech fell short to No. 3 UCLA 7-6 in the Los Angeles Regionals' first matchup.
For Tech, Emma Ritter hit a hit to center field and stole second right after to open the game. In the Hokies' third at-bat, Cori McMillan hit a home run for three RBIs, and Cameron Fagan hit a single of his own.
Lindsey Grein threw 45 strikes in the first four innings of the afternoon game, making it 12-5. Emma Lemley started the contest by pitching three innings after recording her 50th career win on Friday.
The Hokies increased their early lead to 4-0 on Addie Green's RBI single. UCLA quickly turned the tide, scoring two runs in the bottom of the third inning on Megan Grant's single. The Bruins' batting line scored three runs in the fourth inning, flipping the score to 5-4.
Tech got one point back in the fifth inning and scored another point in the top of the seventh inning. UCLA scored two runs in the bottom of the seventh inning to pull away for the victory.
Virginia Tech will move into the elimination bracket with its sights set on the winner of Grand Canyon vs. San Diego State. The next contest will be held on Saturday at 10pm ET.
