Mario, Luigi and Boo want to help you supercharge your travel gear.
Last month, Nintendo unveiled some cool Legend of Zelda merchandise for gamers exploring Hyrule, and now they're back with a new line of Super Mario travel gear for anyone preparing for an adventure in the real world.
First, a nifty passport cover (1,100 yen) [US$7.10]) features Super Mario level-style illustrations and layouts.
▼ The red background is from the Japanese passport that is placed inside, and that part of the passport holder is transparent.
▼ Bowser is lurking inside, and next to him is a pocket where you can put tickets and cards.
Of course, unless you pack light, you're going to need a suitcase for any trip, and with this luggage belt (¥2,200), you can easily distinguish your suitcase from someone else's.
The belt loop of Mario riding Yoshi is a clever touch, as is the flagpole belt stopper.
There is also a storage and packing pouch set (2,530 yen) that makes it easier to keep your bag organized.
This is a 3 piece bundle, the largest is a square question mark block that measures 25cm (9.8 inches) on a side and has a mesh backing.
The remaining two pouches feature a Mario pattern on the front and Luigi on the back, as well as various power-ups, and are 25cm long and 15cm high.
Mario, Luigi, and many Buus are gathered in a 21cm-wide sacoche bag (2,750 yen). It's not bulky, even on days when you have to ride a crowded train, and you can carry your essentials when you go out.
▼ Boo also appears as a zipper puller!
Speaking of trains, if you buy your ticket using a prepaid IC card, a retractable card/pass case (1,980 yen each) is handy.
▼ Considering that Mario often travels using warp pipes, it seems like a fitting motif to include cards related to travel.
If you're planning on doing outdoor activities during your trip, or even if you pass through the outdoors while traveling from one indoor tourist spot to another during the hot summer months, this Super Mario Level Cool Towel (1,320 yen) can help you beat the heat by soaking it in water and wrapping it around your neck and shoulders like a scarf.
When not in use, it can be folded and stored in its own pouch.
▼There is also a Boo version.
And finally, Nintendo is also classifying these two new tumblers (2,200 yen each) as travel items.
Honestly, these seem just as suitable for home use, but in the excitement of sightseeing it's easy to forget the importance of staying hydrated, so having something to remind you to stop regularly during your itinerary and grab a cold drink would be all the better.
The entire lineup will be available for purchase at Nintendo specialty stores in Tokyo, Osaka and Kyoto, as well as online, on July 12th, just before Japan's summer travel season kicks into full swing.
