LEXINGTON, Ky. (ABC36 NEWS NOW) — AAA officials expect travel season to begin as early as June 29 with more than 810,000 Kentuckians traveling for the Fourth of July. That means 91% of Kentucky travelers will take to the roads, contributing to record-breaking numbers across the state and nation.
A total of 71 million people will travel across the country for the holiday, said Lori Weaver Hawkins, public relations manager for AAA Bluegrass.
To help travelers get through this busy time of year, AAA is sharing some tips from its experts.
Travel Dates: The busiest travel dates are June 29 to July 7. Timing: If you are planning to drive a long distance, it is advisable to leave early to avoid rush hour traffic jams. Peak Times: Expect the busiest times to be on July 4th from 2pm to 7pm.
Weaver Hawkins stressed the importance of patience during this time of heavy traffic. “We all need to be patient,” she said. “The last thing you want to do is become aggressive or frustrated while driving, which can lead to poor driving behavior. The hot weather doesn't mean you need to become agitated.”
Finally, experts recommend having emergency supplies on hand in case you get stranded in your car, especially considering the hot summer weather.
