Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D.Y.) described the current state of American health care as “barbaric” on an upcoming episode of Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-Vermont).
In a preview for Wednesday's episode of “Bernie: The Podcast,” Ocasio-Cortez recommits herself to fighting for progressive change while addressing the high health and housing costs and challenges many Americans face. I lamented the difficult choices I had to make.
“The fact that people are choosing between medicine and rent is barbaric,” Ocasio-Cortez said in a preview released Sunday. “The fact that people worry about whether they'll be able to get out on the street every four weeks is barbaric. Every time a person feels aches and pains in their body, they don't know if it's just joint pain or it could be cancer. The fact that I'm afraid of this, but I can't find out because I don't have the money to go to the doctor.”
“This is an act of barbarism. And if we don't demand from our unions for health care, wages, an end to endless wars, and if we don't just demand, but win, we're going to commit to barbarism. “I will not give up because I am facing charges,” she continued. “I refuse to submit myself to such a future. That is not life. So, in order to live, we must fight for each other.”
Both celebrities have become central figures in progressive politics, passing progressive policies in the Inflation Control Act, including capping insulin at $35 for people on Medicare and allowing Medicare to negotiate directly with pharmaceuticals. He played an important role in the inauguration of the Biden administration. companies. Both Ocasio-Cortez and Sanders are supporters of the Medicare for All bill.
Sanders started the podcast about two months ago in conjunction with his book, “It's Okay to Be Angry About Capitalism.”
