KFF Health News' “What the Health?” Washington correspondent Julie Rovner speaks with Atul Grover of the Association of American Medical Colleges about graduating medical students avoiding training in abortion-free states and majors. He talked about recent analysis showing that. limit. Among the people who applied for residency this year were people from all specialties, not just those who are obstetricians and gynecologists or those who regularly treat pregnant patients.
Fourteen states, mostly in the Midwest and South, have banned nearly all abortions. A new analysis by AAMC found that states with near-total abortion bans saw a 4.2% decline in applications to residential programs, compared with a 0.6% decline in states where abortion remained legal. found.
