British Columbia's First Nations Health Service is investigating a cybersecurity attack.
The health authority, which describes itself as Canada's first and only provincial health authority, said it became aware of “unusual activity” on its internal network on May 13.
The interception occurred after an “unauthorized entity” gained access to the network, the company said.
Health officials say they have evidence that certain employee information and limited personal information of other employees was affected.
However, the company said there was no evidence that the attack affected the clinical information systems it uses.
The cyberattack is the latest in a series of recent incidents in British Columbia, but health officials said there is no indication they are related.
Law enforcement agencies and the Office of the British Columbia Information and Privacy Commissioner have been notified.
State Premier David Eby said earlier this month that the state government had identified a “sophisticated cybersecurity incident” involving government networks.
In other recent incidents, hackers targeted a British Columbia library in an attempt to hold user information for ransom, and retailer London Drugs closed all of its stores in western Canada to deal with a cybersecurity breach. It was closed for over a week.
