NEW DELHI: In a significant move to strengthen bilateral health cooperation, India and Japan have agreed to advance cooperative efforts at a meeting on the sidelines of the ongoing 77th World Health Assembly (WHA) in Geneva, officials said on Monday.
The two sides stressed their determination to advance cooperation based on the memorandum of cooperation signed in 2018, they said.
Key areas of focus included expanding cooperation into new areas such as digital health, the use of artificial intelligence (AI) in healthcare, elderly care, and tackling non-communicable diseases.
The initiative aims to harness technological advances to improve health outcomes and address growing challenges posed by an ageing population and lifestyle-related diseases, officials said.
They stressed the importance of the upcoming Joint Working Group meetings, which will facilitate the detailed planning and implementation of these joint projects.
Additionally, the two countries plan to strengthen an ongoing program of teaching Japanese language to Indian nursing professionals.
The programme is designed to prepare nurses for employment opportunities in Japan, catering to the needs of Japan's healthcare workforce while also providing valuable career prospects for Indian professionals.
