Registered Nurses (RNs) and Licensed Practical Nurses starting new jobs in rural northern communities can expect to earn a very generous salary.
Northern Health is offering emergency nurses and licensed practical nurses who relocate from urban areas to rural and remote communities a $30,000 incentive for two years of service.
“We currently have 173 open positions for acute care nurses and are keen to recruit as many as possible,” said Emery McFarlane, regional manager of recruitment services.
“It's also for people who are new to rural and remote communities, including Prince George. It's also for people who have worked in urban or metro areas before. It's also for people who are relocating to rural and remote communities and coming to B.C.'s public health centres for the first time.”

MacFarlane noted the north receives more hiring incentives from the provincial government than other parts of B.C.
“Recruiting into rural and remote communities is challenging, and has always been challenging,” she said.
“It's a unique environment. It's a unique practice environment, a unique living environment, and it's not to everyone's liking. But there are some people who come to our community and really love practicing in a rural and remote area and the rural and remote lifestyle.”
This incentive offer is available through May 31, 2025.
