The Viking Raiders' Eric and Ivar have been through a lot together, from their debut in Ring of Honor as the team War Machine to signing with WWE. Just when it seemed like things were starting to look up for the team and Eric's wife, Valhalla, under Paul “Triple H” Levesque's regime, two of their team members suffered serious injuries. Before announcing the career-doubting injury, Ivar sat down with Chris Van Vliet over WrestleMania 40 weekend to discuss Eric's recovery on the “Insight” podcast.

“It's neck surgery. It's just a matter of time and everyone's necks heal differently,” Ivar said. “It's just a matter of if it doesn't become an issue for him. He's doing well. Physically he's doing very well. He just needs the doctor's clearance to get back in the ring. So it's going to take a little bit of time.”
Eric underwent neck fixation surgery in September 2023. He played his last match with Ivar in “WWE Main Event”. The two were scheduled to fight in a fatal four-way match to determine the new number one contenders for the then-undefeated WWE Tag Team Championships, but it was canceled at the last minute. Ivar received a minor push in singles as a result, but is now out indefinitely, having recently trained with “WWE NXT”. The legitimacy of his injury was questioned, but he clarified on social media that the injury was indeed “very serious”. At the time, Ivar had not undergone surgery. As for the future of the team, Ivar said in April that it was fine as long as they stayed together.

“In our hearts we feel like we're a team,” Ivar said. “We're in this together. We wouldn't be where we are without each other. Just like New Day, I don't see us breaking up no matter what. We may each be releasing singles, but we're forever a team.”
