The College of New Caledonia (CNC) opened an expanded nursing lab on its Quesnel campus today (Monday) after four months of renovation work.
Last year, CNC received just under $1 million in funding from the Ministry of Higher Education and Future Skills to remodel existing classrooms and upgrade current nursing labs.
“Working together, we are investing in the training and preparation of health care workers across the province,” said Lisa Bear, Minister of Advanced Education and Future Skills.
“With this renovated lab at the University of New Caledonia's Quesnel campus, we will position the next generation of health professionals for success and ensure people across British Columbia can get the care they need, when and where they need it.”
This expansion will accommodate increased seating capacity and meet new program requirements for the following career paths:
Registered Nurse in the Northern Cooperative Baccalaureate Nursing Program (NCBNP) offered in partnership with the University of British Columbia (UNBC).
Additionally, there is a Health Care Assistant in Career Access program offered in partnership with Northern Health.
“Providing an excellent learning environment is a key component to giving students a positive experience. We are grateful for the support of the British Columbia Government and the opportunity to work with UNBC and Northern Health to contribute to the education of the next generation of health care professionals,” said CNC President Cindy Heitman.
Each year, CNC offers nearly 430 seats across its health science programs, including but not limited to registered nursing, practical nursing, medical assisting, diagnostic medical ultrasound, medical radiology technology, medical laboratory technology science, dental hygiene, dental assisting, and more.
With the demand for medical professionals high, graduates from CNC’s School of Health Sciences have a 94% employment rate in positions related to their program.
