Los Angeles, CA – No. 17 Virginia Tech defeated San Diego State 5-1 at Easton Stadium in the Los Angeles regional opener of the NCAA Tournament.
The Hokies were led by strong pitching from third-year senior Emma Lemley, allowing just one hit through the first five innings. Lemley (13-5) pitched seven innings, allowing just three hits and striking out six. Her win today marks her 50th win in the circle.
Tech's hitting started to pick up in the bottom of the third inning, scoring the game's first runs with three straight hits. Cameron Fagan got an RBI following a bunt by Addie Greene and moved freshman Annika Loos to third base to set up the RBI.

In the next inning, the Hokies extended their lead with Trinity Martin's RBI homer from Kylie Aldridge, and Sarah McNelly moved to third. McNelly scored, extending Tech's lead to 3-0.
Five players had RBIs in Friday's win, and Green had a team-high three hits. Emma Ritter followed closely with two hits of her own. The Hokies scored in both the fifth and sixth innings.
Virginia Tech will play the winner of UCLA vs. Grand Canyon on Saturday at 5 p.m. ET.
