THE FLATS – Georgia Tech baseball dropped the second game of the series to No. 10 Florida State, 11-3, on Friday afternoon in the first game of a scheduled doubleheader, but rain and lightning forced the seventh game. The final game of the series was suspended, with Tech leading 7-6. inning.The finale continues Saturday at 2 p.m.
In Game 2, the Yellow Jackets (30-21, 14-15 ACC) were tied 1-1, but the 10th-place Seminoles (39-13, 17-11 ACC) scored eight points in the third inning. They took an overwhelming lead. . The Tech team continued to struggle, with John Giesler scoring two RBIs in the fifth inning and Demitri Diamant hitting his first career home run in the sixth.
The Jackets remain without the full services of Peyton Green and Trae Junger. Overall at bat, Giesler, Matthew Ellis, and Mike Becketti led the way with two hits each.
On the mound, LHP Cam Jones (3-2) gave up six runs in 2.1 innings, suffering his second loss of the season. Tech then used five arms out of the bullpen, with RHP Logan McGuire providing the best relief, going 3.1 scoreless innings.
Florida State was led by Cam Smith, who went 3-for-5 with one RBI. LHP Carson Dorsey (5-3) pitched 6.0 innings, allowing just three runs on seven hits and five strikeouts in the win.
Georgia Tech and FSU will reconvene for the finals on Saturday, May 18th at 2:00 p.m., bottom of the seventh inning, runners on 1, 2nd base, and 2 outs.
