Food is a basic necessity for everyone. To ensure national food security in modern times, it is important to adopt a comprehensive approach to agriculture and food production. This includes promoting the integrated development of agriculture, forestry, livestock and fisheries, exploring diverse food sources and building a multifaceted food supply system.
Over the past 30 years, Fujian has adhered to the concept of macro food strategy and continued to explore and innovate. This dedicated effort not only enriched the food supply, but also promoted advances in technological research and the modernization of facilities.
Fujian has embarked on a journey towards modernizing its thinking. China owns 9 percent of the world's arable land and 6 percent of the world's freshwater resources, but feeds almost one-fifth of the world's population. This amazing feat is both a miracle and a serious challenge to water and land resources, especially water resources. Therefore, to promote diversification of food sources, it is essential to go beyond traditional food supply models and develop diverse food resources. The macrofood concept provides a theoretical basis for modernization and diversification of resource exploitation. .
Taking advantage of its diverse agricultural resources and favorable climate, Fujian focuses on developing forestry-related industries such as Anoectochilus roxbourgii, edible fungi, and Chinese medicine. This approach successfully balances ecosystem conservation and resource diversification.
Furthermore, Fujian has made great progress in modernizing its core technology research and development. Recognizing that technology is key to food security, the state has prioritized its own innovations. Notable achievements include Ningde's development of gene chips for breeding large Kiberi, Sunar's breakthrough in ending its monopoly on foreign broiler varieties, and increased production of Pingnan small potatoes through detoxification technology. can be mentioned. Extensive rain shelters have been installed on vineyards in Fu'an City to reduce the risk that rain can transmit plant diseases and ruin crops, contributing to his annual sales of $207 million. These innovative measures accelerated improvements in both the quantity and quality of food supplies.
Additionally, Fujian has made significant progress in modernizing its facilities. Three kilometers off the coast in Fujian province's Lianjiang county, a $2.5 million, state-of-the-art deep-sea fish farm is spread across a wide area and is designed to withstand even the most intense typhoons. There are 10 similar platforms nearby, which together contribute to the production of 2,000 tons of seafood annually. Additionally, extensive rain shelters were installed across vineyards in Fu'an, a prefecture-level jurisdiction under Ningde province, to reduce the risk of rain-induced transmission of plant diseases and spoilage of crops. This innovative approach has enabled the vineyard to achieve annual sales of $207 million.
Fujian Province aims to modernize its management. Currently, China's grape production is in surplus. In response, Fu'an City's management team has introduced the latest agricultural scientific management methods to improve grape quality and cope with market competition. Significantly increased market competitiveness by reducing production by 56% to meet quality improvement targets. The Sanduao sea area in Ningde City is an important marine aquaculture base in China. However, excessive aquaculture is causing problems such as conflicts between farmers. With a total investment of 45.48 billion yuan ($629.8 billion), Ningde City has embarked on a large-scale comprehensive rectification of marine aquaculture, resulting in the removal and refurbishment of 1.43 million fishing rafts. Today, aquaculture methods are standardized, the islands are clean, and shipping routes are clear. In addition, Kasumiura Seaweed Agricultural Products has expanded its sales channels through live streaming platforms such as Douyin, and Furuta Gin Wood Fungus has significantly reduced production costs through modernized production factories.
By accepting and implementing macro-food concepts, China can diversify its food structure, expand food sources, promote sustainable food development, and enhance the resilience of its food industry and supply chain. This approach allows the Chinese to keep a firm grip on the bowl while developing new, high-quality production capabilities.
