Days after two senior OpenAI executives announced they were leaving the AI startup behind ChatGPT, policy researcher Gretchen Krueger said she would be doing the same at X.
Krueger said her decision was made independently of OpenAI co-founder Ilya Sutskever and chief coordinator Jan Rijke, who also resigned. She said she submitted her resignation on May 14.
“I share their concerns. I also have additional, overlapping concerns,” Krueger said in the post, adding that he would “do more to improve basic things like our decision-making processes. Accountability; Documentation; Careful use of proprietary technology; Mitigation of inequalities, rights and environmental impacts.
He also said he wanted to prevent tech companies from causing discord among those trying to hold them accountable, but praised OpenAI's work and future success.

Reicke announced his resignation last week, saying OpenAI still had work to do in terms of safety procedures.
“Over the past few years, safety culture and process has taken a back seat to flashy products,” Reike told X.
OpenAI CEO Sam Altman agreed, though he and OpenAI President Greg Brockman later defended the company's safety efforts in a post.
However, Altman apologized after media reports highlighted a clause in OpenAI's exit process that could have led employees to lose capital if they didn't sign strict separation agreements when they left the company.
OpenAI also suspended one of its virtual voices, named “Sky,” after Hollywood actress Scarlett Johansson expressed her outrage, claiming that the voice was “eerily similar” to her own.
She noted that she also posted a reference to the 2013 film “Her,” in which Altman played an AI assistant.
