Health Canada, Transport Canada and the Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) announced a variety of recalls this week, including for Ford hybrid vehicles, the Lamborghini Urus, promotional Nütrl-branded tumbler cups and enoki mushrooms.
There are four recalls this week:
Enoki mushroom
The CFIA has recalled Meta brand enoki mushrooms after agency testing found they may be contaminated with Listeria monocytogenes, marking the second recall of a different brand of the mushroom this year.
The recall, announced Wednesday, noted the 200 gram bags were distributed in Ontario but may have also been sold in other provinces and territories. The product can be identified by the universal product code 6 957937 482116.
Federal agencies have warned that foods contaminated with Listeria, including enoki mushrooms, may not show signs of spoilage, but consuming such foods can cause symptoms such as vomiting, persistent fever and muscle aches.
If you believe you have purchased this product, please discard it or return it to the store where you purchased it.
Lamborghini Urus
The 2023 and 2024 Lamborghini Urus models are being recalled by Transport Canada due to a structural issue that could cause the hood to open “suddenly” while driving.
According to the recall, the transportation department said rivets that secure the hood latch striker on luxury SUVs may not have been properly installed on some vehicles.
“Under certain circumstances, the striker may detach from the hood, causing the hood to suddenly open while driving. This may also cause the hood to detach from the vehicle,” the notice states.
Transport Canada said this not only obstructs a driver's view, but if the hood comes off, it could create a hazard on the road and increase the risk of a crash.
The recall states that Lamborghini will notify drivers directly by mail to bring their car into a dealer for an inspection to determine if the bonnet needs repairs and/or if a support plate for the striker needs to be installed.
Nütrl brand tumbler cup
The 30-ounce stainless steel tumbler cups that were given to customers as a purchase bonus with cases of 12 or 15 Nootle Seltzers are being recalled across Canada due to potential chemical and ingestibility hazards. According to the recall, approximately 33,000 tumblers were given out to consumers between April 29 and May 17.
According to Health Canada, some tumblers may contain chemical solutions containing amounts of phosphoric and sulfuric acid trapped between the walls of the container. The advisory states that this chemical solution may drip out when the tumbler is filled with liquid, resulting in elevated concentrations of iron, chromium and nickel, which could pose a risk of serious injury.
As of May 23, Sunscope, the manufacturer of the tumblers, had identified 43 cases in which consumers reported symptoms ranging from nausea to diarrhea, headaches, cramps and abdominal pain.
Choose a Ford Hybrid
A software update to certain Ford hybrid vehicles could cause the transmission to shift into neutral unexpectedly, according to a recall announced Tuesday by Transport Canada.
Transport Canada says this could lead to a sudden loss of power to the wheels, increasing the risk of a crash.
Affected vehicles include the 2020-2022 Ford Escape, 2021-2022 Lincoln Corsair and 2022-2024 Ford Maverick.
The recall says Ford will notify drivers by mail to bring in their vehicles for a software update to the powertrain control module.
