The Spallamtine-Armstrong Food Initiative Association's produce sharing program begins July 8
If you still have space to plant food in your garden, you will be helping those in need.
The Spallumtine-Armstrong Food Initiatives Society (SAFIS) doesn’t begin its produce-sharing program at the community garden behind the red caboose (Armstrong) until July 8, but the society is encouraging anyone with room in their garden to plant an extra row or two.
“Please bring any excess produce to our community garden volunteers on Monday between 9 and 10 a.m.,” the association said.
“From 10am to 12pm, surplus produce will be available to people who don't have access to fresh fruits and vegetables.”
For those who are working or can't make the morning drop-offs and pick-ups, SAFIS will be accepting drop-offs and pick-ups from 5pm to 6:30pm.
The program will run every Monday from July 8th to October 7th.
This marks the 16th year SAFIS has run the program.
“With the price of food and other goods rising, people will benefit from free fresh produce now more than ever,” the association said. “Sharing produce not only provides people with fresh, locally grown food, it also sparks conversations about growing, preparing and storing food.”
