A local business wants to help fill seasonal food gaps at the Okotoks Food Bank.
Employees of 10Fold Group Inc. will be launching the “Stuff the Truck” initiative in collaboration with Sobeys Okotoks on Wednesday, May 29th.
Aaliyah Coy, communications coordinator for 10Fold, said the initiative was inspired by seeing food bank donations drop during this time.
“We noticed that the Okotoks Food Bank was going through a period of hunger. They get a ton of donations at Christmas and people donate food and it gets them through the winter, but then in the spring and summer their food supplies really start to dwindle, so we wanted to help them.”
About a dozen volunteers from 10Fold will be packing shopping carts with donations at the Okotoks Sobeys to deliver to the food bank.
Several others help sort donations at the food bank.
“Six fully trained volunteers from the Okotoks Food Bank will be there restocking the shelves and preparing food packets to distribute to local residents. All volunteers will also be trained as regular volunteers so we can return at our own convenience and serve as regular volunteers,” Coy said.
Those who wish to donate can bring their items to Sobeys between 7:45am and 10am.
Coy said the event is meant to not only boost the food bank, but also let people know that there is still a huge need.
“People need to eat. It's a really big need in our community and we want to bring that to light a little more.”
