This modernized transportation system will make the journey to school safer, more comfortable and more efficient for students, while providing peace of mind for parents.
The software is installed on tablets installed in school buses. Key features of the technology include:
Telematics Systems: Telematics allows for real-time monitoring of each school bus and provides bus drivers with turn-by-turn route directions and bus stop locations. The system improves student safety, enables more efficient route planning, monitors vehicle health, optimizes maintenance schedules, and improves fuel economy.
Integrated Bus Pass Systems: Implementing RFID technology to monitor when students board and disembark from the school bus improves student safety and provides bus drivers with a verified list of students boarding the school bus.
Mobile app for parents: The mobile app, “My Ride,” is expected to be introduced in the 2024-2025 school year and will allow parents to track their child’s school bus route and receive real-time updates.
Each student enrolled in a school bus route is given a bus pass that they scan when boarding and disembarking the school bus. When the bus arrives at its scheduled stop, the assigned student is identified on a tablet. If a student accidentally boards the wrong bus or disembarks at an unassigned stop, the system alerts the driver.
Transportation Services will distribute bus pass cards throughout May and inform parents and school staff about the new technology and what to expect with the changes.
