The Well, one of Toronto's newest and most anticipated mixed-use development projects, officially opened its doors to the public this week with the unveiling of the Wellington Food Market.
The market is the latest addition to the area, bringing together a curated selection of over 50 food and beverage vendors to provide Torontonians with a delicious and diverse culinary experience.
The 70,000-square-foot space is home to a variety of unique food options, including Rosie's Burgers, La Cubana, and award-winning hot dog franchise JapanDog (first in Toronto). From fresh produce to casual dining, the market has become a magnet for locals and tourists alike, with organizers saying more vendors are expected to open in the coming months.
“A thoughtful, curated and strategic process based on extensive culinary research and outreach beyond Toronto's borders resulted in the ideal mix of stores,” Oliver Harrison, senior vice president of leasing and tenant experience at RioCan Real Estate Investment Trust, said in a press release.
“This diverse selection of cuisines can't be found in one place anywhere else in the city. The establishment pays tribute to the city's rich culinary history and offers a balanced mix of new and well-known classics to serve the city's culinary scene,” he continued.
So how did this downtown development begin? It all began in 2016 when The Well began construction.

Six years later, in 2022, The Well's first downtown office building, 8 Spadina Ave., opened its doors, and since then, it has continued to add office, residential and retail occupancy.
In November 2023, The Well will officially open with a ribbon-cutting ceremony to mark the completion of the site's commercial, residential and retail spaces and to launch the first year of its holiday programming.
The opening of Wellington Market marks another major milestone for the mega complex.
In addition to the market, visitors can enjoy The Well's existing culinary offerings, including 12 fine dining restaurants, including Aera and Lulu Bar Toronto.
Wellington Market is located at 486 Front St. W and is open seven days a week.
