The Simcoe Muskoka District Health Unit (SMDHU) Board of Health congratulates Dr. Steven Rebellato, Deputy Director of Environmental Health, for receiving the 2024 Lifetime Achievement Award from the Association of Local Public Health Agencies (alPHa) on June 6th.
“It is a pleasure and honor to recognize Dr. Reberato's contributions to the health department and his dedication to public health and the well-being of our community,” said Annmarie Kungl, chair of the SMDHU Health Committee. “During his professional and academic career, Steven has contributed to the advancement of a variety of public health topics, including environmental health, climate change, infectious diseases and artificial intelligence.”
The alPHa Distinguished Service Award, presented annually, recognizes individuals who have demonstrated exceptional leadership in their respective settings, achieved measurable accomplishments through long-term service or distinguished acts, and demonstrated exemplary dedication to public health at the local and state levels.
“Alpha's Distinguished Service Award recipients have demonstrated exceptional leadership in their fields, achieved measurable results through long service or outstanding actions, and demonstrated exemplary dedication to public health at the state level,” said Alpha CEO Loretta Ryan. “Dr. Reberato is an outstanding public health leader and an incredibly dedicated volunteer. This is the highest honor Alpha can bestow upon a member, and he is a truly deserving recipient.”
Dr. Reberato has served in various roles on the alPHa Board of Directors since 2016, currently serving as the Board Liaison for both Artificial Intelligence and Climate Change. She holds a PhD in Public Health from the University of Waterloo. She has held various academic roles over the years at both Waterloo and McMaster University, contributing to the Master of Public Health program and the School of Health Research Methods, Evidence and Impact, respectively. Dr. Reberato is currently a Research Associate at the Dalla Lana School of Public Health and is participating in an AMS-Fitzgerald Fellowship focusing on Artificial Intelligence and Human-Centered Leadership.
Dr. Reberato served as Chair (currently Vice Chair) of the York Hills Centre for Children, Youth and Families in York Region and has been instrumental in promoting public health, volunteerism and community well-being.
