ROCHESTER HILLS, MI – As police continue to investigate a shooting at a Rochester Hills splash pad, the mental health and well-being of the community is their top priority.
The shooting happened just after 5 p.m. on Saturday, June 15, at Brooklands Plaza Splash Pad, located at 1585 E. Auburn Road in Rochester Hills. Police believe the shooting was “random.” Nine people were injured in the shooting, including two children. The gunman committed suicide at his home a few hours after the shooting.
Oakland County officials have announced plans to help those who may be suffering in the aftermath of the shooting, and as rallies are being organized, longtime Rochester Hills Mayor Brian Burnett said a meal train has already been set up to help affected families.
The splash pad where the shooting occurred is just about a mile from the Rochester Hills Public Services Department building that will be used as a family support center.
Starting Sunday, therapists will be available for anyone who needs them. The Oakland County Health Network is providing support in the aftermath of the Oxford High School shooting and is now operating in Rochester Hills.
If you feel you need help, please talk to someone. No appointment is necessary to take advantage of the resources at the Family Assistance Center. Therapists are available Monday through Friday from 4 to 8 p.m. at 511 E Auburn Road.
If you are unable to come to the Family Assistance Center, please call 800-848-5533. Nurses are available Monday through Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
