Mateo Garcia Silva (LLM’24), a member of the inaugural class of Tech Policy Press Fellows, earned his Master of Laws (LL.M.) from Georgetown University Law School in May 2024.
Originally from rural Galicia in northwestern Spain, Mateo García Silva (LLM'24) spent his first years as a lawyer at the Barcelona-based international law firm Cuatrecasas, where he specialized in technology regulation, media and telecommunications law, and data protection. Seeking an opportunity to further his expertise in technology law and policy, he left his home country to earn a Master of Laws (LL.M.) from Georgetown University Law School in Washington, DC.
As a law master’s student, Garcia Silva discovered the McCourt School’s Technology & Public Policy Program (TPP) and a newly established fellowship with nonprofit media venture Tech Policy Press.
“When I first heard about the Tech Policy Press Fellowship, I was already a newsletter subscriber and listener of insightful podcasts covering a wide range of tech policy issues,” he said.
During his final semester at Georgetown Law School, Garcia Silva was selected as part of the inaugural class of Tech Policy Press Fellows, giving him the opportunity to explore the important role technology plays in modern society and the need for thoughtful regulation to balance innovation and the public interest.
Throughout the Spring 2024 semester, Garcia-Silva and his peers had the opportunity to regularly engage with Tech Policy Press staff, assist with their research, and develop substantive summaries of policy findings to be published on the web. The fellows' work also included documenting regulations, laws, lawsuits, and other policy actions that seek to govern technology around the world.
