The annual Timmins Firefighters Food Fundraiser will be held Sunday from noon to 4 p.m.
Timmins Food Bank operators say this comes at a great time as people are in holiday mode and donations are down.
The firefighters' food donation drive will help make up for a lack of donations over the summer and fall.
“We run every single fire station in the city from Connaught to Mount Joy and they're all involved and just occasionally the sirens go off to let people know we're in their neighborhoods,” Deputy Fire Chief Scott Atkinson said.
“We have a lot of volunteers behind us who go door to door and people bring food and load it into their pickup trucks.”
Officials with the Timmins Food Bank said utilization continues to increase due to rising food prices.
“Honestly, our whole group is excited about this firefighter food donation drive,” said Rick Young, president of the Timmins Food Bank.
“We've been doing this since 2006 and without the firefighters' food donation drive we would have been in trouble some years.”
Officials said the top 10 items needed by food bank clients are instant coffee, canned tomatoes, canned meat, jam, peanut butter, crackers, canned fruit, toilet paper, canned vegetables and canned beans.
Cash donations are also accepted.
