A hideaway summer
It's no secret that overtourism is a problem: popular destinations like Venice have introduced entrance fees, and a photogenic spot near Mount Fuji has been erected with fences to prevent tourists from crowding in.
If the thought of rubbing shoulders with other tourists makes your summer vacation blues, don't worry. There's a solution.
There are plenty of hidden gems perfect for solo travelers looking for some quiet and peace, as well as family-friendly spots where everyone can feel at home.
If you're looking for a lesser known Greek getaway, why not book a stay in Halkidiki, known for its soft beaches, or Thessaloniki, packed with history?
Looking for a European getaway? Avoid the crowds of Paris and enjoy a taste of France in Montreal, Canada.
If you'd prefer to stay closer to home, Idaho is an oft-overlooked but incredibly scenic state, while my home state of Maryland has a lot more to offer than crab cakes and football.

Caitlin Clark is the Rorschach test
Clark, 22, a University of Iowa graduate and women's basketball sensation, has unwittingly become the center of America's culture wars.
Clark says she doesn't talk about politics and focuses on basketball, but she's finding it hard to concentrate on the game. Some sports commentators have accused black players of bullying her. Others have compared Clark to Eminem and said she doesn't get enough recognition because she's white.
What does all this say about the sports media ecosystem?

The end of gentle parenting
This millennial mom always wanted to be the “cool” parent, and gentle parenting seemed like the way to do it — it didn't favor a punitive approach and seemed consistent with what she wanted from motherhood: calm.
But by the time her son started kindergarten, it was clear that it wasn't working: He rebelled against daily challenges and had a hard time accepting authority, so she gave up on gentle parenting.
What will she do instead?

Making Ultra-Processed Foods Healthy(ish)
Five years ago, nutritionist Kevin Hall changed the way we look at ultra-processed foods when he found that a diet of ultra-processed foods led people to eat about 500 more calories per day.
While his findings helped kickstart the “clean” eating trend, Hall wasn't convinced that avoiding these convenience foods was the real solution, and now he's on a mission to develop new recipes to make ultra-processed foods healthier.

Working from vacation
A new work trend is emerging around the city that involves getting away from the city while still working: the “quiet vacation,” which refers to people secretly going on a full-fledged vacation while they work.
Answering emails on the beach may sound easier than answering emails at the office, but the fact that some people feel so pressured at work that they can't even tell their boss they're on vacation is a sobering reminder of America's broken work culture.
Why a “quiet vacation” is a bad idea.
