Guelph General Hospital and the University of Guelph are joining forces to tackle a health issue plaguing the community.
The two publicly funded organisations signed an agreement that sets out a framework to leverage each other's strengths to “overcome regional challenges” and focus on several key areas.
These areas include enhancing research and development activities, improving clinical care, and supporting education and training programs for health professionals, students, researchers and others.
A news release issued by U of G noted that the company and GGH already have a rich collaboration and are “uniquely positioned to address challenges impacting the health of the region.”
Officials at Glendale College said the school is working to solve health problems that “cannot be easily addressed through traditional specialization.”
In the announcement, the two organizations called the agreement “an important milestone for both organizations as they strive to positively impact regional health and sustainability, foster innovation in healthcare delivery and enhance educational programs.”
As part of the agreement, GGH is exploring a student placement model and has recently accepted six co-op students.
The plan is to work together to “develop the future generation of community leaders through education, mentorship and hands-on experience.”
