Babe Cakes has temporarily closed. Dayali Peking Roast Duck, Santee Langham Square, Royal True Blue and Orange Home and Century Private School have been cited by York Region Public Health.
A Concord caterer has been temporarily closed and two restaurants at private schools in Markham and Richmond Hill were cited for suspected food safety violations by York Region Public Health inspectors last week.
Babe Cakes, 167 Applewood Crescent No. 5 in Concord, Vaughan, was ordered to close on June 17 for failing to provide adequate protection against insect, vermin and rodent infestation, according to a public health inspection report.
The report lists a list of non-compliances, including failing to provide adequate protection against pest infestations and operating a food premises that was maintained in a manner that adversely affected sanitary conditions. The closure order was issued because the premises were maintained in a manner that permitted the infestation of rodents and vermin, according to the report.
Upon reinspection on June 18, health inspectors found the establishment in compliance, public health signs were posted and the establishment was reopened for business.
Dayali Peking Roast Duck, located at 20 Gibson St., units 101-103, Markham, was charged June 21 with failing to protect food from contamination or adulteration.
The report cited non-compliances including failing to properly handle all food in a way that prevents contamination or adulteration, and not providing restrooms with adequate supplies, toilet paper, trash cans, soap, hand dryers and disposable towels.
Food handler training was conducted on-site and tickets were issued.
Santee Langham Square, 30 South Unionville Avenue, Unit 1021, Unionville, Markham, was cited June 20 for handling ice in an unsanitary manner.
The report cited non-compliances including not providing hand-washing stations that were easily accessible to food handlers, not having sufficient equipment at the hand-washing stations, not storing and handling ice hygienically, and not keeping records of pest control measures taken.
Food handler training was conducted on-site and violation tickets were issued.
Royal True Blue and Orange Home and Century Private School, located at 11181 Yonge St. in Richmond Hill, were charged June 18 with failing to process food in a way that made it safe to eat and storing potentially dangerous food at high temperatures below 60 degrees internal temperature.
The report cited non-compliance for issues including failing to store and maintain potentially hazardous foods at internal temperatures above 60 degrees Celsius, failing to properly thaw potentially hazardous foods, and failing to adjust or repair faulty warming units.
We have conducted food handler training on-site and implemented acceptable interim measures.
Following a reinspection on June 19, health inspectors were on-site to provide food handler training, install public health signage, issue approvals, and issue tickets and citations.
York Region Public Health says inspection reports only indicate the condition of a restaurant at the date and time of the inspection and are not a guarantee or warranty of the condition of a food establishment at any other time.
