Rwanda – The Rwandan government said it would not repay more than $300 million (R5.4 billion) it received from the UK in a deal to deport asylum seekers from the UK to Rwanda. A spokesman said the deal, signed in 2022, did not include a refund clause. The statement came after newly elected UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer announced plans to call off the deportation deal.
USA – Brad Pitt has reportedly had “little contact” with his adult children and limited visitation with his younger ones due to his busy filming schedule for the upcoming racing movie “F1.” A source close to the family said Angelina Jolie has primary custody of the children, with Pitt having visitation rights with the younger ones. Pitt, 60, was recently spotted at the British Grand Prix with his girlfriend Ines de Ramon. Pitt has six children with Jolie: Maddox, 22, Pax, 20, Zahara, 19, Shiloh, 18, and twins Knox and Vivienne, 15.
HONG KONG – Public anger is growing in China over allegations that state-owned food giant Sinograin and private conglomerate Hopeful Grain and Oil Group used the same tankers to transport fuel and edible oil and failed to properly clean them between uses. Beijing News reported that the nasty practice was an “open secret” in the shipping industry. In response, China’s State Council has launched an investigation and promised tough punishment for those found guilty.
SAN DIEGO – The San Diego Zoo Wildlife Alliance announced that giant pandas Yun Chuan and Xin Bao are adjusting well to their new home following their recent arrival on June 27. The pandas are the first in 21 years to arrive in the United States. Currently, the two are kept in a private captive environment and are not yet available for public viewing. The zoo released photos of the pandas eating and relaxing in their new home.
