Doug Mills, the veteran New York Times photojournalist who took the now-iconic image of a bullet whizzing past Donald Trump at a rally in Butler, Pennsylvania, on Saturday, said the former president was “just so angry” as he pumped his fist.

“The next thing you know, it was like the blood just drained from his face… he was blue and you could see blood on the side of his face,” Mills told The New York Times.

“I went over to the side of the stage where Secret Service agents were taking him away. There was a lot of pushing, shoving, screaming. I just ignored it all and tried to capture a historic moment. That’s my job, that’s what we do … all the cameramen that were in the pool that day,” Mills added.
