RUSSELLVILLE, Ark. – SWOSU lost 7-1 to Arkansas Tech in Friday's series opener, scoring once on an RBI home run in the eighth inning.
The Bulldogs stranded 10 runners, but couldn't get any extra base hits in this game.
Tech hit two runs in the first inning off an RBI single that SWOSU followed off a jumper. He extended the lead to 4-0 with a two-RBI double in the third inning, and a two-run homer and extra-run double in the fourth accounted for all seven of ATU's runs on the night.
Phillip Saunders relieved Rece Parker (2 wins, 2 losses) in the fifth inning and held Tech to three scoreless innings. Aiden Page pitched eight scoreless innings. Sanders and Page held the Wonder Boy offense to one hit over the final four innings.
This is the most points and hits Parker has surrendered in a game this season.
Offensively, the Dawgs had seven hits, but were unable to break the shutout until the eighth inning. With two outs, Joseph Frisbee hit an RBI homer, and SWOSU avoided a shutout. The Bulldogs stranded multiple runners in every inning after the fifth inning.
Sean Monsoor led the lineup with a walk to finish 2-3 on the night.
SWOSU will have a chance to bounce back tomorrow with two more games starting at 1 p.m. at Buswell Field in Russellville. If they win both, they will win the series.
